In response to Baltimore City's recent announcement of the OpenBaltimore initiative, there's been a large interest from those within the community that want to start getting their hands dirty and seeing what can be done with this data.

Come join us all day on Saturday, Feb 12th at the Beehive in Canton, a coworking space for tech entrepreneurs.

Schedule for the Day

9:00 am: Doors open with Breakfast from THB

10:00 am: Intro to OpenBaltimore / Socrata

- Overview of what feeds are available
- Overview of Socrata API (Presented by Socrata's Chris Metcalf)
- Overview of Tropo API (Presented by Tropo's Mark Headd)
- Quick Demo of exporting a filtered CSV to Google Maps

12:30 pm: Lunch from Rosina Gourmet

4:30 pm: Wrap-up / Begin Presentations

6:00 pm: End Presentations and Present Award to Coolest Mashup!

Food and Drinks Are Provided!

Food and drinks will be provided throughout the entire day courtesy of Tropo, an awesome company that has an API that lets you add Voice, SMS, Twitter, and IM support to the programming languages you already know. Mark Headd, a representative for Tropo and legend when it comes to civic hacking, will be at the Beehive throughout the day helping folks out.

What You Can Expect To Work On

While there are currently only a few datasets publicly available from the city, you're encouraged to experiment with anything you want!  For example, a few of us will be hacking up a social map of Baltimore that uses LinkedIn data. 

Current datasets from OpenBaltimore include: 311 info, Parking Citations, Property Tax, Crime Data, and more.

	Tropo will not only be providing food for the entire day for everyone, they will also be providing their API services that will let anyone easily integrate Twitter, IM, and Phone into their app!   Big thanks to Mark Headd for his help in organizing the day.
	Socrata provides all sorts of solutions for open data environments and is currently the platform that powers OpenBaltimore.  We're thrilled to have Socrata's Technical Program Manager, Chris Metcalf fly in all the way from Seattle to hang out with us for the day.  He will be available throughout the day building and helping others build stuff.
	There's a small handful of representitives of the Baltimore Sun that will be hanging out with us for the day!  While it's great they will be there to cover some of the cool things everyone is working on, I'm even more excited that they'll be working on some cool, newsworth things of their own. Feel free to say Hi to Gus, Julie, and Mary (used to work for the Sun, now is working on a venture with NewsTrust)
	The Beehive is a coworking space in Canton that serves as an office space for dozens of tech entrepreneurs.  We'll be working out of this space and some rooms around the ETC (the incubator that houses the Beehive).
